Help me out with a good spot to detect a beach

DFX-Gregg

Well-known member
Going on vacation first week in April. Found out Myrtle beach would be to cold for the kids to go in the water. Where else would be a good spot in the states where I could use my DFX??? Want somewhere the wife/kids can hit the water and I can detect. Also a few good restaurants and maybe an amusement park, thanks! How is South Padre Island? Any other ideas????

forums were to help each other! I understand everyone seems to get extremely excited about their own finds but I am not asking for to much am I???? Could I get a little help??? A few places that are warm enough first week of April to beach hunt with DFX and a nice hotel, restaurants and maybe an amusement park for kids. I see tons of responses here for people bragging about their own finds....how about someone asking for a little help?????:stars:

All it takes to find good stuff is to research the area you would like to detect, Try Google...

This maybe a hobby but we work hard at it by researching beaches and knowing where the best stuff on the beach and in the water is...

Someone can give you general advice but beachhunting is more than just general advice its learning the beach and learning about cuts and troughs. Learning how tides and storms are going to effect the beaches we hunt.

Any beach where people crowd and gather in fairly large numbers is a potential spot. It's not so much the geographic location as it is the demographics. In other words, research where tourists (careless in wearing jewelry to the beach) frequent and if you can, pick where wealthier ones visit (they have the good jewelry and want to show it off). After a day on the beach, they leave for dinner...then YOU hit the beach. During the day, watch where they gather and put their blankets, and wade/swim. There is a lot of competition for the loot, so don't be surprised to see other hunters hitting the beaches. But, grid out an area and work it thoroughly, not everything gets found on the first pass. The DFX is an incredible wet-sand machine. Use the beach and jewelry program, learn the tones, and dig every signal...that's how we water hunters work. Don't forget to do your ground balance on the sand you intend to hunt. Work parallel to the beach, that way your detector won't be constantly trying to ground balance...it's more stable that way. Everybody on these forums are extremely helpful in telling you HOW to detect, but not WHERE to detect. That part is the expected hard work and is required by those making this a commitment, not just a casual hobby. Good luck in your hunting!

Up to now you are the only one that has been able to answer the question! I am not asking anyone to give up a treasure chest! :detecting: I was just looking for some warm weather beaches in early April with some decent tourist spots that the kids could go in the water! I almost reserved tickets to go to Myrtle Beach, but heard the water is too cold! Luckily someone saved me on another forum. Believe me I am doing research! Just thought expert advice was available here!

Hey PapaJoe!

You can always come over here! (Honolulu) the beaches are great and the kids can definitely go in the water!

Waikiki beach is always full of tourists that donate to the treasure hunt!

Hope to get down there this fall. My hunting buddy Harry H has been there several times and may have met some of you, including German George.

If you decide to go, let me know and I will point you in the right direction vis-a-vis good beaches to hunt.

Cheers,

BDA:cool:
