Help me out here...Why would you want to hunt in all metal with the New Tesoros when according to the tests the Disc Mode goes deeper...

I am not a relic hunter and I assume that this is for relic hunters and has to do with iron. Any insight to this would be appreciated as I ma curious.

give me an answer as to why youwant to hunt in all metal?

it's not the best mode to use with the new Vaquero because the autotune is way too fast.
I like to hunt in All Metal so that I can hear ANY response from ANY metal target at a site. Until I know what types of targets are present (if any), or where human activity occurred in the past, I hunt in an All Metal mode.
As for the depth of detection, I have used the Vaquero now for a week+ and have NOT seen better depth of detection from the Disc. mode. I hunt in highly mineralized environments, and 2-filter type motion discriminators do not far so well. They require a more controlled and deliberate slower sweep speed.
I would enjoy the Vaquero's All Metal mode performance more, and I am sure it would appear much better, if the autotune was not so blasted quick! It might be some posters feeling that the Vaquero got better depth in the Disc. mode because they were not comfortable with the very fast All Metal mode autotune and were not able to discern subtle responses.
Then, too, maybe they liked the "Super Tuned" saturated audio of the Disc. mode to the slight audio response from a slightly deeper target in All Metal?
All I know is for maximum depth I haven't had the Disc. mode best the All Metal mode ... but I don't like the All Metal mode.

deeper" but you can most certainly hear target signals in the disc mode that won't make a peep when the detector is switched to the AM mode.
With the slow motion required to pinpoint in disc mode, as far as I'm concerned, the mode change switch won't get much use.

Not with a Tesoro. I use a Treasure Baron Goldtrax often and run it in all metal until I get a signal, it gives a staccato audio response and lights an LED when the coil is swept over iron and very small foil plus it has audio variations in all metal mode that make small foil and pencil eraser bands easily recognizable. I turn on iron reject in the discriminate mode and when I get a hit in all metal I toggle to disc to see what conductivity range the target is in The GT has two audio tones plus a mix between the tones that can be adjusted to any point in the discrimination range, that makes it easy to separate nickels and higher coins from trash. A hard, solid all metal hit that doesn't give a response in disc mode is where many womens gold rings are in the conductivity range. Even some with big diamonds <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">.

I bought the Cobra II off of Bob(Ms) because, being essentially a base Baron w. notch, i figured it would be pretty sensitive to small stuff in the disc. mode. I've got some incredibly tough (mineralization) & trashy ground to hunt up here in B.C. & figured that it would do the trick. Did I just shoot myself in the foot?..Willy

John,
Monte said it best of all the responses.
The trouble with DISC mode on MOST detectors is that it fools, tricks, and deceives the user into thinking that it goes deeper than the all metal mode does due to a louder ATR (audio target response).
This is something that some of us have proven to ourselves, and only when you prove it to yourself will you believe. Having said that though, by nature, a true all metal (DC) mode gets better depth in mineralized soil than DISC (AC) modes.
It's too much typing to explain HOW to prove this to yourself, but I will point out that a properly set THRESHOLD, and good headphones are one of the important keys. Additionally, as Monte stated, an autotune set to fast can also hinder the all metal mode performance. (Proper ground balancing is also an important factor.)
