Help me ID this. (I hope I'm not cursed)

I found this MD'ing. It's the most unusual thing that I've ever found.
The metal is two parts, front & back attached together and looks like pewter.
I don't believe that the hair is human, maybe horse hair???
Below the 'chin' is a Maltese cross.
On the back side is what appears to be "OPD" with a copyright (c in a circle) mark.
There is no loop for a chain or other way of hanging it.

Has anyone else found one of these, or have an idea what it is?

Wow Stan, that would have given my shivers when I pulled it out!! Good luck with the ID.

Yeah...umm..ya might want to put that back. JMO

be afarid, be very afraid..... sheesh the curse is passed on to the finder.... bury it quick....

actually no idea... kinda neat.

Looks like some sort of KABUKI ornamet to me.... doesn't apear to be too terrible old from the pictures..... the only curse you have there... is the one you make for yourself..... but japanese lore does say.... that anyone finding one of these will have their toes eaten by rats while they sleep...... just kidding

Thanks to everyone for responding to my questions.
The object is still an interesting mystery.
I'm going to keep it, and do some investigating in the winter time.

Couldn't have been too deep.... & there for too long, or the hair would have been long gone! How deep was it, & , where'd ya find it at?

BUGADA BUGADA!
