Help me date this powder flask part and buttons

McDyver

New member
Th large button has marked on the back "orange colour", are these musket balls really chewed? Why? Thanks!

McDyver, I am hesitant to comment on your first pic as I have not handled enough powder flasks to be sure. I guess it could be a measuring device for the flask as they did have such an item. As to your musket balls, it is not uncommon to find chewed balls like yours. However, it is not the humans who usually do the chewing but rodents and hogs. Your coin button is kind of hard to date without seeing the backmark, but most of those seem to come from the 1850s era. Nice bunch of finds you have there.

Thanks grey ghost, been there at least a dozen times and still find great stuff! must have at least 80 musket balls and a few copper arrow heads.
