I was building a reference guide for our local coins. I only seem to have this effect on new coins.

I place the new coin on a spot that has no metals or anything and as I sweep my coil onto my target it gives me a number and a tone but as soon as my coil passes over that target it changes tone and the value.

Another coin was giving me a different effect, its also a new coin. It
 
I don't know what country you are in, but some countries like Canada on their more modern coins are using a steel inner core and silver/copper outer skin. This confuses metal detectors because they are seeing mixed conductivity. Take a magnet and hold the coin near it to see if the core is steel.

10 Peso Ring: 75% Copper; 25% Nickel Core: 92% Copper; 6% Aluminum; 2% Nickel

5 Peso 70% Copper; 24.5% Zinc; 5.5% Nickel

1 Peso 75% Copper; 25% Nickel

25 Sentimo 65% Copper; 35% Zinc

10 Sentimo 6% Copper; 94% Steel

5 Sentimo 6% Copper; 94 % Steel

1 Sentimo 6% Copper; 94% Steel

I do hope to find some Spanish coins here since our country was colonized by Spain for 300yrs:yikes:
