Help in identification

I don't find many relics or CW artifacts, so when I found this "I" at Bentonville, NC, I wasn't sure what it was. The percussion cap was also found nearby. I have gotten some opinions from club members but wanted to see what others think. Also, should I try to clean it, and if so, what with? I have been told to put it in boiling hydrogen peroxide. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Andy from Hillsborough

The I probably came off of a kepi judging its size. Great find.

Nice find buddy. A company letter is on my bucket list. HH

Thanks everyone. Funny thing is I have never found a bullet yet!! Just camp lead and percussion cap and a cannonball fuse.

That minie is in your future. Go back to that same spot and dig those DEEP "iffy" signals and you will get some.
