Help if you can?

Okay sooo new at this! Just got an Ace 150... no making fun of me!

Can you give me some tips? I go out with my daughter in the afternoons after school to find ... well cool stuff. We life in the high desert around San Diego, there are many many stories about old gold mines, gold veins found when bulldozers graded for new houses, and bags and jars of old coins found around abandoned stone structures.... way fun! However I have no idea what I'm doing! Today we were out poking around and my daughter climbed up on a rock, I went up to fetch her and the detector went crazy... it seemed to go nuts when I put it over the crack in the rock. Very consistant every time... going from coins to rings?

Anyone have any ideas about this?

Any tips for finding gold in them there hills...?

Much respect to all of you!

Dunno, I'm not up on gold hunting too much, but it could be a hot rock.
But it could be metal that was dropped in the crack, or under the rock
maybe.. Hard call without digging it up.. :/ But being as the ID is wandering
around, it could be rusted iron. How big is this rock?
I'm sure others can pipe in with better ideas.. There is not much gold around
these parts, so I don't get to try it. The only way I'll likely find gold around here
is if I find a ring.. lol..

I'm not the expert on gold mining with the 250 but I do know unless it's a good size nugget you probably won't get any hits. My bro awhitster bought a small amount of placer gold. It doesn't show on the 250. The 250 isn't made for gold mining. They make much more expensive ones for that. But don't stop looking. That nugget you find will be the one we want to see........Good Luck!!

What kind of placer gold and how big? I field tested it on my test nuggets and it screamed like a banshee.

How big was this rock and what did it look like? Could have been a hot rock or even a meteorite ( worth some bucks ) or there was metal in the crack . Need more info.
