That looks like a segment of a quartz or calcite vein separated from original bedrock ages ago. Then weathered a long time removing the sharp edges.
The exposed part looks like a recent break exposing the inner stone.
You can do tests on the stone to determine if it is quartz. Quarts will scratch glass.
Calcite crystals looks similar but are much softer and will not scratch glass. Calcite is also more subject to weathering and can be found in many deposits like limestone.
