HELP Identify

I was out relic hunting and came across this item I am unsure what it is. I dug it in Ringgold Georgia where civil war artifacts have been dug. They are building a house and the bulldover took 4in off the top and this item was about 2in deep. it measures 1in wide by 2 3/4in long
 
what you have there is the top clip of a 2 part clip that is used to conect a conveor belt there were nuts and a bolt with knotched heads the heads of bolts would line up with the slots on your pice not old at all usded them all the time in belt spliceing in my job.
