Found this at a Civil War site. Could this be a cannonball fuse? I have seen photos that look exactly like this, except mine has an extension on both sides of the threaded portion. One picture shows what appears to be a chunk of black material that is almost fused to the threads. The threads also seem to have the same material in between them.

Any help would be appreciated.
