Help ID this Buckle

Found this old buckle today in an area where alot of civil war artifacts have been recovered. I don't know if this is CW or not. Hope one of the experts can id it. Thanks Mike in Tn

What you have there, is a shoe buckle from the American Colonial period. That particular style will date ca. 1770-1800, I believe. Really is quite rare to find those early shoe buckles complete, still intact, and including the center piece (as I recall that part is called the chape). Usually, only parts and pieces are all we relic hunters find.
