help ID old lock

I found this old padlock at an old house site in the woods last Sunday. Can anyone give me an idea of how old it is?
There is not much sign of the homeplace, so I'm thinking at least in the early 1900's.
I showed it to some friends and they said it looked like a lock that was used by the railroad.
Any replies are appreciated.
