Help! ID needed on this strange animal that I found roaming around our yard

We very seldom see wild animals around here..once in a while a turkey will cross into our yard, so when this cute little chubby creature was seen eating near our wisteria bush , and then heading back to the woods through a hole in our fence, I just had to take some photos .

We're not sure..but think it might be a groundhog, ( ?Punxatawny Phil)

Anyone out there know what this furry animal is?

Around here the farmers go out in the field and whistle, when the ground hogs stand up, they shoot them. They call them whistle pigs.
I couldn't do it.

If its a woodchuch(groundhog) it's very tastee bbqd with open pit sauce. Ifn a big one cook (bake) til tender-- very good--enjoy
