This thing popped out of a hole about 6 or 7 inches deep at most. It is heavy like lead... but seems to be something else. Maybe brass??? My thought was a modern black powder ball... but I really have no clue.

made of Hematite. It will have a heavy feel to it and a metal detector would pick it up if high minerals are present. Prehistoric man used this material to make several tools: Plummets, Birdstones, Discoidals, Cones and spheres. Yours could be a Native American artifact. It would need to be inspected by an authority on the subject. Value is not high but it would be of value. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
