help ID a old old button

I went out today and found a very old and unique button with my xlt. I don't have a camera to take a picture but its easy to describe. Little larger than a quarter, about 1/8in thick copper. Crossed rifles on the front with a large "M" under the rifles. there is a fine weave pattern on the background. On the obverse its seems to have a small stud with a screw and flat fastener to anchor it to the cloth. I am leaning towards either a michigan or mississippi era civil war button. There are no manufacture names on it anywhere
 
Sounds like a World War I U. S. Army Infantry, Co. M collar disk. See link below for one from Co. A.
