need some info on this button my friend found this one and about 3 yrs ago i dug one 70 miles apart both in civil-war camps but my back/mark is superior-quality some say a police button but need more proof were police in the war and where did they come from all research will be great. thanks jon

I can help a little bit: according to Albert's, the backmark indicates that this button was manufactured between 1850 and 1865. It's got me curious now, I've dug a few of those buttons years ago here in Texas. I'll see if I can find a picture in the book. Best of luck and ...

Looks like a police button from that era.I've got one somewhere that came out of a union camp.
