Help! having issues with excal 2...

Recently went to Waikiki beach. Excited for a very populated beach hunt. Turned on my detector (excal 2) and got erratic threshold. Put down a ring in the sand to test. It would hit on the ring in the middle of the madness in my ears. Any ideas? I'll work on a video. I know about mineralization being from the Big Island.

Was it smooth when held in the air? Id ask what your settings were but i assume you know the machine. First guess would be EMI. Check the battery charge as well. Do the Video and im sure Joe will chime in here.

Agree with Dew on first thoughts. Try a different place.

Since the cable company put in a new underground cable, I can not do much in the way of tests or using the Excal in my front yard. Some other detectors I can, but the Excal does not like what is being radiated. When I get 40 feet or more from where the cable is buried, I can start to use it but still with a wavering in the threshold. The further away I get the smoother the threshold gets until it is back to normal.

Edit: LOL ... lot more coverage in answers on the Beach forum; I should have read that first and saved a post!

If at all possible have a second fully charged battery with you. It seems a very expensive luxury, but it can mean a hunt vs a punt and if you have a big investment in travel & time it is cheap insurance.
