I sold Fliptop my XTerra 70 and 2 coils. Pack N Mail packed and shipped it. When he got it, the ears on 2 of the coils were broken. When the girl packed the 2 coils, she inverted them to where the the ears of both coils were together and wrapped both with bubble wrap. So is it possible that as she was tightly wrapping them she could have broken an ear? The other one was the one on the lower rod. Fliptop said when he opened it up from the bubblewrap, the ear was broken. It wasn't given to Pack N Mail that way. I broke the unit down and paid $450 insurance, which we are now asking for a claim for. Are those ears that sensitive? And can they be fixed, or is the coil damaged beyond repair? Fliptop and I have to make the claim.

Thanks

Dan

I would send it to Minelab. These "ears" are sensitive and have been known to break on other units. Minelab has been repairing these "under Warranty" if I am not mistaken, Beale.

They were broken in shipping then shipping is responsible. Does not matter is the ears are that sensitive. There have been quite a few posted as broken on here, but those who have had problems would in my opinion be a minority, consider the number of guys who have had no problem.

Make a claim to the insurance.

I've been using the X-TERRA as long as anyone, and longer than most. I've put thousands of hours on the various coils and never had a problem with any ears breaking off. I will say, however, I am darn particular how I handle my detectors, as well as how I pack something I might ship. But that aside, I would imagine Minelab would take care of them for you. But I don't see where you can hold Fliptop to his end of the sale, at this point. I ain't got a dog in this hunt. But if I were in your shoes, I'd pay the cost of shipping the package back to you, send the coils to Minelab for replacement, and list it again when I had the entire package working as it should. Who knows? If Fliptop isn't in too big of hurry, he might just wait until you get the stuff back from Minelab and you can complete the deal you started. As to filing a claim with the shipping company...... if the package doesn't show obvious damage on the outside, I think you're in for a long battle. JMHO HH Randy

Thats a bad way to get a package, sorry to hear that

The ears broke on my 5x10 coil. I took it back to the shop where I bought it from and they in turn sent it to Minelab to process as they saw fit with the claim. They were kind enough to replace it under warranty. Although I haven't had the best run with my X-terras; when I've sent them back Minelabs service has been fairly good. From what I've seen of other users that have problems with various brands of detectors, most companies are pretty good.

If warranty will not replace the coil, then if you want to, it can be both spaced and fixed with hard-solid plastic washers and glue (like with Loctite Super Glue or Loctite Sumo glue). Glueing exactly the right sized hard-solid plastic washers on what is left of the broken ears especially right near the coil.

How to make exactly the right sized hard-solid plastic washers(you can find a thicker material than ice cream bucket lid if needed):=>
