Help getting me started with a White's M6

Hi Dirtdog, you've just got yourself one of the best allround detectors out there....excellent inland and with a beach setting that actually works properly.Firstly about the two coils. The standard 9.5"coil is a good coil with excellent depth and quite good seperation in the trash. The 10x6dd is better in the trash, has only slightly less depth than the standard coil and is much lighter to swing. It will also do better in mineralised ground and in the wet sand at the beach.....it's this coil you should have on your detector for most of your hunting. In fact although the 9.5" is a decent coil,i hardly use mine but it's there as a back up should anything happen to the 10x6.The settings i use on the M6 are dependant on where i'm hunting. If i'm on the dry sand at the beach or in a public place i tend to use the tone id mode.I concentrate on the high tones and ignore the low ones. This is good for coin shooting and ignoring the foil and pull tabs but care is needed as some very thin rings can come in as lower tones. If i'm at an historic site,a site with high mineralisation or one littered with iron i use single tone mode.I use minimum discrimination and dig everything that gives a good signal.Target i.d on the display and tone i.d can be rendered useless on these types of sites.Mineralisation and a high concentration of iron can make a detector recognise good targets as iron and this is true for all detectors not just the M6.With the M6 in single tone with minimum discrim and the 10x6 coil you have a detector that will pull good targets from in amongst the iron......it has a very good recovery speed and is very sensitive to even the smallest targets.Overall it's a brilliant machine that is often overlooked because of it's simplicity......a lot of people think the more programs you have the better you will do.The M6 proves exactly the opposite...it's simple but can keep up with most machines in performance terms.....great piece of kit.Anything you are unsure about send me a personal message and i will try and help if i can.
Best regards,Neil.

Scoper is telling it right. I have the MXT and use the 6X10 most of the time. You'll do well with the M6.

My opinion the m-6 is the best coin machine white makes. very simple to operate and a good machine for the wife or someone who does not want to spend a lot of time with programming.
