Help Excalibur problems!!

Hi,
I was wondering if any of you could give me some Tech advice. I just bought a new Excalibur from Kellyco. I live in the North so I haven't had a chance to give it a field run yet. But I have charged it and took it outside to mess around with the settings. Well it seems like I'm having a threshold consistency problem. I'm setting the machine on Disc. and also on auto and 1 for sens. Anyhow waving or holding the coil in the air, I'm getting pings, pops, buzzing everything but a nice threshold hum. Do you think there's something wrong with the detector, or am I needing to change a setting? Also, if the headphones get remotely close to the coil, say 16 inches the threshold goes nuts.
One thing I'm really not liking already about this machine, is the cheap charging unit. Geez a guy shells out all that money can't they put a green light on the charger saying you have a full charge?

Some locations are brutal.
Turning sensitivity to auto or even all the way down does not help at some locations. Try a different spot.

BBS machines are particularly prone to interference because they recieve a wide spectrum of frequencies.
They work on frequencies that are all harmonics of 60 hz power.

Could it be all the wireless routers in the houses around my block?
Do you know if they would interfear with that freq?

Can't say for sure. Probably not as they are low power high frequency.

Higher power communications equipment can be bad.

Most likely cause is from power lines. I can hunt right under some without much trouble, while with others it is nearly impossible from 50 yards away. Underground power cables cause this too, you just can't see them.

Sometimes the noise is so bad in my front yard that I have to unplug the meter and coil both to get my Sov to shut up.
The noise sounds a lot like a radio tuned off station too far or SSB transmission on a AM reciever.

It's a weak spot for BBS machines. Single freq detectors usually don't have nearly as much trouble in high noise areas.

All you can do is stay away from the really bad spots.

I got a mid priced White's to work the really noisy areas. Not nearly as good a detector as my Sov, but sure works better in the noise.

I believe you have the detector that I sent back to Minelab ( Not really ) I had all the same problems that you have. Mine had a bad circuit board and defective earphones. I could not pinpoint unless I took it out of discriminate..Try wriggling the wires where the headphones connect to the battery housing and see if you get any different sounds.. Do alot of indoor test with coins and rings. If you still are having problems' call Sandy at Minelab

I have Excalibur with an 8 inch coil and it loves small objects, getting ready to try it at the coast in mid April,Myrtle Beach S C with 15 club members richard gosports1@aol.com Charlotte,N C
