Help choosing Underwater Detector please

HowieYtown

New member
Hello all,
New to this forum and I'm searching for advise before purchasing a metal detector. My plans for this machine would be primarily used underwater with scuba gear and also beach wading and dry sand with a small percentage of use being on land also. I am in Ohio and it would mainly be used in fresh water.
Price has moved me away from a JW Fisher Pulse 8X and (and the pulse induction system) my thoughts have been directed to a Tesoro Tiger Shark, Minelab Excaliber or even a Fisher 1280X.
I do a lot of relic hunting and would like the detector to help me "see" what I cant. I should add that ease of use is a priority, as while diving one has plenty to do to keep himself occupied!
I might add that my 10 year old son will be using it, primarily for sand and surf use and I see it as something he might grow into as well as diving in the future so purchasing one with a lower price tag now that I can always step-up in a couple of years to a more expensive model. On that though a good child's model that is waterproof might also be something I need to look into, or not?
Thanks ahead of time and any help would be appreciated~

Howie

Probably a used Excalaber, would be a good choice first up. Best of luck with it! HH regards Nugget.:detecting:

I have a bounty Hunter Tracker IV for above water, ive had it for quite some time and havent really used it, but it seems to be pretty dandy, maybe it would be a good starter one since the coil is waterproof but not the whole detector.

and im on the same boat as you, new to all of this really, and im looking for a detector and equipment i would need if i go wreck diving/ relic diving etc etc when i get into the air force. (leaving the 16th)

best of luck with your search!
