:help: bounty hunter gold digger or tracker IV

I am a complete beginner and after reading a couple books about treasure hunting I have decided to take the plunge and purchase a metal detector. However I have no clue which one I should get. I am torn between the bounty hunter tracker IV and the gold digger. The tracker seems to have more positive reviews, however, it seems that another coil must be purchased in order to detect gold. The gold digger has a lower price and it can also detect gold without the need to change the coil however the coil in that model is not interchangeable. I have no clue on how functional or accurate this model is. Since I am a novice I am looking for something with no frills at the moment, just something that will do its job. What do you recommend for a nube like me? If not those two models what should I purchase?

How much money are you willing to put into your detector at first? I can understand if you don't want to put a lot of money into it at first.

Ok, if I were you I would go with tracker iv or the 1st texas pilot which i think bounty hunter is owned by 1st Texas. The bounty hunter quick silver looks to be the same as the Pilot except it has an 8 inch coil. I have used a pilot and I have to say I was very impressed with it. Excellent machine for a beginner. Remember a lot of time gold will register as nickel. Just don't notch out nickel when your hunting. You can also hunt in all metal. I got my info from the Kellyco website. Read all the reviews you can before making your decision. The BH Quick silver is 135.95 at Kellyco. I'm sure it's sold by many other good dealers also. I like kellyco because you can get to the reviews so easy and they have great prices too. Hope this helps. :)

Either of the two models you mentioned will detect gold; the name "Gold Digger" doesn't mean that the detector is designed to specifically detect gold. Of the two models, the tracker is more tried and true, and probably a better machine.

I bought a Tracker iv 2 years ago on price and from reading reviews. Well, it sat for nearly a year and I never did use it. A buddy in FL encouraged me to bring it down when I was going for a visit in Oct.
The first 5 minutes I was out, on my first hit, I found a 14k gold wedding band. A nice solid one worth about 180. I paid 110. for my Tracker. You can now pick one up on Amazon for around 90.
I have nothing but praise for it. My buddy has about 1500. plus in his detector. Bottom line, you need to dig every time it rings, because tabs and gold rings often sound the same and read the same.
It's a lot of fun and that Tracker will net me much more, as soon as we thaw out in NJ.
Good luck!

is there a big difference among tracker IV, quick silver, quick draw II and 1st texas pilot. I am getting so confused now. Do they all work about the same when it comes to being able to detect things? ( minus the bells and whistles)

It is confusing. I can only tell you my experience. I wil say I read a lot of reviews before I buy a detector. This forum helps too. I like detectors with different tones for the different metals. I also agree with Ronn. Gold will register and sound much the same as tabs and nickel. I'm sure all the machines above are great detectors and will serve you well. The trick in metal detecting anyway is finding where the stuff is! Good luck and let us know what you decide on. :)

Can't speak for the Gold Digger but I bought a Tracker IV last year as my first detector and am really impressed. I probably dig more than some with higher end detectors but that's part of the fun. If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't change a thing and would buy the Tracker IV. Hope this helps. Good luck and happy hunting.

i purchased a tracker iv off eBay 2 years ago after researching detector after detector each one had advantages and disadvantages but being on a budget clearly the tracker with its reviews from other users turned out to be the best detector for me I'm both a coin and relic hunter and the tracker hasent let me down and the tracker has no problem reaching coins at 6 to 8"s i purchased a land star also from eBay for more depth and more options and i still enjoy going back to the tracker just my opinion hope it helps
