COULD USE SOME FEED ABOUT THE 505 AGAINST THE TIME RANGER WHICH IS THE THE BEST UNIT? AND WHAT IS THE BEST UNIT :bounty:MAKES NOW? JAMES

Bounty Hunter's top of the line is the Platinum. The Time Ranger, which was the top of the line, is a very good detector especially now that the price has dropped. Both are good detectors although I like my Platinum better than the Time Ranger.

I've never used a 505 but from what I have read on this forum those who have used it like it.

I use the BH 505 Pioneer and think it is great. A friend has a White machine which cost $1,200. We have "hunted" together and I observe that he has no greater success than I. In fact, I seem to fine more than him. His machine certainly has more bells and whistles but I see no justification for the extra expense verses cost [$100..amazon] of 505. I have been looking at the BH time ranger but do not know if it is better than 505. Why did BH drop production of Time Ranger? I am just learning about how to best use my detector...but what I notice from different forums is that "Ground Balance" [whatever that really is] is a problem with Time Ranger. Ebay has Time Ranger selling for $160 with additional 4 in gold coil...apply for ebay credit card and reduce cost another $10..free shipping. Sound good to me. Things I have noticed. You can't notch out pennies...what indicator says it is is not always true...junk is everywhere..you can;t fine it if it's not there. Does anyone know anything about so called Electoscopes...are they funtional and usefull?

Bells and whistles. That reminds me of cloths washers and dish washers and all of the various settings they have. I use one setting on each and that gets the jobs done. Most bells and whistles are designed to separate customer from their money and not much more.

The big difference to me is the Time Ranger has a manual Ground Balance and gives you number Id. The 505 is preset ground balance. the manual ground balance should give you a depth edge in some types of ground. Both good detectors. Cg

I don't own a time ranger although I have looked at videos and read the online manual. As far as I can tell it does not have 'manual ground balance'. It has a 'ground trac' feature in the form of a button that you can push (without degrees of adjustment), but that is not the same as manual ground balance adjustment. Am I mistaken in this?
