Help at the beach

Ok the detector is in the mail. I'm reading the posts but need any advise on using the Mxt on the saltwater beaches. I'll be at the Texas gulf. I've got the regular 9.5 and 5" excelerator. I see some guys have used on the beach.

A great machine, don't think you will be sorry for buying one. Make sure you get a good set of headphones, this is must. I beach hunt with it and a cz20, my 20 will not pick up the small gold like the MXT so I use it to water hunt. I would recommend getting a 6x10 DD coil, this is my choice beach hunting. The MXT will hunt the wet sand with no problem provided that you re-balance going from dry to wet. The way I do it is to ground balance in the salt position then lock your setting. Do the same going from wet to dry only ground balance in the ground position on dry, then to lock. Bottle caps can be frustrating for a while, but they will generally bounce around on the vdi reading. A coin tends to lock on solid with a lighter sound than a ring, the rings will lock on solid too. Don't run your disc. to high, I would not go over 2. Just take your time, don't rush, learn the machine. It will pay off. hopes this helps some. will be looking forward to seeing some of your finds. HH

Thanks Sandpiper, I'll get to Texas in January and might get to the beach once or twice. In March I'll get plenty of time on the sand. Thanks for the help. A new larger DD will have to wait. Who makes your 6x10?

Its the Whites Eclipse DD - it will not get the depth of the stock but on the beach you really don't need extreme depth. Another plus is that it's lighter in weight, not as much area for sand to stick on top when hunting at night or wet, and covers the same area in one swept as the stock.

Thanks I didn't know if it was an accelerator. Good to know. Rob

i will also be in the Texas golf cost for most of January and part of Feburary, getting away from MI snow and cold. May see you on the beach!
