Help!! Any Stingray 1,2/ Tigershark users! Concerns......

I air tested about +20 rings my wife has last night. I'm only getting 7 inches with the sens wound up. Is this normal????(8 inch coil) Also the volume control acts a little odd right at the end of the pot it springs from med/loud to insane loud. From my hunt the other day I'm really, really concerned that it's not striking deep enough.( but it also would not GB?) In the shallow water i'd find targets at good depth some of them had to be more than 7 inches, in the middle i'd find a few targets but in the chest high area zilch?? Except for the necklace i found. The bottom is kind of soft/muddy. Thanks for the help.

PS. Does anyone know if tweeking the threshold gives any (useable) gain on these machines???

Howdy R-n-R

7 in. in an air test sounds about right, my Tiger does about the same. In the ground it is a lot deeper. The Lakes that I have been to in southern Kansas have a clay bottom with sand on the top. The sand gets moved around alot, during storms and high wind, so you look for cuts in the sand revealing the clay bottom, this is the areas that produce for me! When you start running into pockets of coins you know you are in a good area.

As far as tuning the detector, I run with a slight threshold, just enough to let me GB the Tiger. The volume is set to be comfortable in loudness to a surface coin. The sensetivity is set outside without any electric interferance to just unstable and then backed off a little to calm the Tiger down. Just like Ron Popeil says "just set it then forget it". HH...........Hombre

I'll have to try and locate some hard pack areas and see what comes out. Just made me nervous with the 7 inch air test. Hopefully something(good) will show up the next time out.
