I FEEL THAT I GET THE BEST OUT OF A MACHINE WHEN GROUND BALANCING,I USE THE 5900 DI PRO SL.WHEN EVER I SEE OTHER WHITE'S,IT IS ALWAYS THE 6000 DI PRO SL.DOES ANYONE USE THE 5900.

until the XLT was released in early 1994. Mine was the 'CB' version (Composite Board) and had all the refinements that the last 6000 Di Pro SL had. Same board, same excellent audio, same excellent field performance, but I preferred (and still do) to have manual ground balance control.

But it was also heavy and poorly balanced, for me, like the 6000 so I opted to go with the XLT mainly for the much improved balance and 'feel', as well as the better battery system.

A few years later White's made the 6000 Pro XL and it virtually duplicated the performance of the former 5900/6000 Di Pro SL models but had the better balance and battery system. I snapped one up as soon as I could after working with the prototype.

White's made two errors, in my opinion. One was discontinuing the XL Pro, and the other was not making a 5900 XL Pro for those of us who prefer to have more manual control! :(

If you can handle the weight and balance issue, you have an excellent performer in your hands! :)

Your point is well taken....

Your 5900 and the 6000 Series have the Same Sensitivity (Signal Balance) Range.

The 5900 with its manual ground balance when balanced properly by the user can be fine tuned to achieve slightly better ground compensation over the slower ground tracking system of the 6000 Series.

Achieving the optimum balance improves visual and audio discrimination characteristics.

When the ground is changing constantly, the 6000 auto trac can give one a slight advantage. In park conditions, I prefer to balance and lock out the auto trac for better VDI ID among other things.
