THE DETECTIVE

New member
Hi All,

Long time reader first time poster. I am so excited to get a metal detector it hurts! I worry that some one is out there finding all the good stuff while I sit here and research what to buy! Please help so I can get going quickly but wisely. So far I like the MXT and this is about what my budget is ($800 max) Four assumptions are important:

1)I have never used a metal detector before (but I do have a technical mindset and love to figure things out)

2)I want to "coin-shoot" about 60% of the time in developed areas and search for gold nuggets in the wilderness (stream beds and dry dessert washes the rest of the time).

3)I live in and will search around Utah and in the mountains (soil is more desert like)

4)I have zero interest (as of now) in so called "Relic hunting" I want coins! Or gold! or silver! Not some old belt buckle even if General Lee himself wore it into battle.

Also please share some beginner experiences you had back in the day.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can to the right place....I WOULD TAKE A VERY CLOSE LOOK AT THE M6
It is the MXT set up for coin hunting.
I would buy the 6X10DD and the 5.3 coil and COINS WILL HAVE A HARD TIME RUNING FROM THAT SET UP.
Go to www.firstontop.com and look at our tips and tricks etc.
my killer set up isthe XLPRO and M6

the MXT has a prospecting mode for Gold prospecting as well as the coin. It also has a relic mode if you change your mind. Oh and if your ever out and happen to find Gen. Lee's beltbuckle. I will take it off your hands.

Plus the relic mode is not just for relics - it can be deeper than the other modes for coins. For what you want to do the MXT is your best choice IMHO.

"Oh ya" the M6 will go as deeeep as the MXT.
I opened the can of worms and the M6 will go deeeper then you may want to dig.(Note it not how deep a detector will go but what will work for you. Most detectors will detect coins deeeper then most coin are found. Most coins are less than 5 inch deep( that will be 99% plus of lost coins, that is what I found out.
M6 is eazy to set up just as deep as the mxt and may be more stable.

Basically a MXT is a user friendly unit and sort of 3 detectors in one so if you hunt for coins or go for gold nuggets even if a newbie should serve you well....
