Help a newb with iron mask

I was hunting an old farm site with a Sov GT No disc (far left), no notch (far left), sensitivity AUTO, max volume, iron mask on, slight threshhold hum, and I couldn't get away from the iron....the iron mask worked okay in my test bed but I was stumped in the field...any suggestions.

Turn the iron mask off until you get used to the detector.
You will still get some hits on old rusted iron, particularly large stuff.
The GT is more prone to hitting on iron and hot rocks than other sovs when the iron mask is on.
