We hit a few school playgrounds this afternoon. The weather was nice and we ran in to some really interesting folks from India. Overall we had a great time... except that last place... I thought for sure I was going to need bail when the police showed up! When the first officer arrived he jumped out of his car and didn't even say a word. He positioned himself at the door to the school as you will see in the photo. I yelled to Bia, "Let's go!" while pointing at the cop car. She yells back "I want to dig! I'm not leaving!" I turn around and here comes two more cop cars. One pulls in front of my van so I cannot escape and the other comes across the school yard to cut us off from the rear.

They stop me and ask questions because someone set off the alarm in the school. Luckily, it wasn't us and they let us continue digg'n. Although, I wasn't happy about them hanging around watching me! Of course, Bia didn't care... not one bit! She never stopped swing'n!


Here it comes... "Bia is a nut"

Now, we pack up and head to our final school yard...

The same thing happened to me. It is possible that I had set the alarm off even though I was some distance from the building. Cops came, checked out the situation, and left. I never stopped what I was doing

Hey there, I see you are using an Excal for hunting there. Do you use it often for land hunting and how well does it do at that?

Bia has the 800 and I have the 1000. The 800 does a fantastic job on land! In fact, it amazes me how well it doess and the small coil reads smaller targets as well being easy to swing. Even in water it's swings easy. That's great for Bia!

The 1000 is a different story. Even with the sensitivity down it seems to read the earth's core! On land, I cannot get within 5 feet of any metal objects nor can I get within 20 feet of Bia's machine. In the playgrounds that doesn't work for us because it's a small space and we are always that close to each other. The 10.5 inch coil doesn't like small targets and if they are close to the surface- forget it!! It will go right over it- unlike the 800 which will read it. The 800 and 1000 do very well on dirt but the 10 inch coil is not a good idea... Unless your in the fields. In the water the Excal's 10 inch coil is a bear to push around. It requires some serious strength to laterally slide the coil around in turbulent water. A true workout if there ever was one!

But at the beach or in the water/ocean... the 1000 wins in my book!

My plan is to get an 8 inch coil for mine while using a water-proof connector near the head unit. Then I can just change coils when I need it. (Cheaper than buying another Excal 800)
