Hello All,

I will put up a greeting post after this, I just wanted to say Hi to the other BH's first. I am very new to this, and I cant wait to get started. I just wanted to let you know that I am a noob, and to take it fairly easy on me.That being said I can already tell that everyone here is extremely helpful.
Just one more thing, can anyone recommend any good DVDs or books to help ease the transition?

Thanks,
Brian

Greetings Brother Brian. It is good to see another member of the Craft visit this sight.

There are many different types of metal detectors so any DVDs or books would simply mention places to go MDing and the rules and ethics of doing so. I uses a 18" x18" piece of upholstery vinyl upon which I place the spoils from digging. This way I can return the soil to the hole with virtually no visible evidence that a plug in the sod was cut and a hole made.

I also use the Harbor Freight pin-pointer. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=97245

I also use an Ames, TrueTemper digging tool. Where I live the soil is so rocky that using a probing tool does not work, so I dig.

I also use rechargeable 9 volt batteries and that saves a LOT of money.

What machine do you have?

Mark,

It is a real pleasure to meet you. I just recently purchased a 505 off eBay, and have yet to to receive it. I don't even know what to expect, just hope i got something basic enough for a new user. I got it with both coils and a couple of recovery items,

I am NEW to this, and am really looking forward to getting out and spending sometime outdoors. I really didn't give it much thought for the season though, seeing as to how we just received 3 in of snow.
Thanks for the tip on the tools, looks a heck of a lot cheaper than what I was getting ready to purchase.

Howdy Brian,

I'm new to all this as well. This is a great forum; nice to know that I'm not in this alone.

Happy Hunting,
Glenn
