First I would like to say hello to everyone. I have been reading through the posts before I joined, and I gotta say everyone seems to be very helpful.
I am very new to M/D. I have always been intrigued though. I received a whites Prizm 4 for X-Mass (by request). I only took it out twice and realized two things. One , I love to do this, and two I need a better M/D. So I did some research while I saved and purchased a Whites Spectra V3i.
I have been reading everything I can get my hands on about M/D. I have read the owners guide front to back about 4 times, and still go back to reread everyday. Trying to learn the lingo and trying to learn this device.
I live in Garden City SC a walk to the beach. So I have been going every day. I also try to practice in the yard, but its full of debris.
My problem is that I dont have any comparison to know how I am doing while at the beach. I have been finding only a small amount of change so far (not complaining) At this point I am happy to pull trash if just to learn.
I have read that you should listen for the faint low hums but when I get them they fade out.
I think that if I could accompany someone hunting that I could learn alot. I am interested in all types of hunting. So if anyone is looking for someone to hunt with I am willing to learn and ready to hunt.
I love history, I love money and I am easy to get along with.

hi in regards to pin pointing with the v-3i

check your vco settings to make sure that it is turned on when i got my v-3 back as the v3i i was having trouble pin pointing too until i found out the vco was turned off from the factory, also if youre using the stock 10" dd coil you need to move the coil left to right to get your loudest tone then turn 90 degrees and do it again the target should then be right behind the stem of your lower rod where it connects to the coil. I also have a sunray dx-1 pin pointer on my machine that helps a lot on finding things faster.

hope this helps

Guess if I had a suggestion it would be to get to some fairly non-trashy spots to do the initial learning thing, err to lesser sensitivities for the first while and compete against no one except yourself. Keep the whole learning curve as relaxed as you can and accept the learning as the first (and most important) treasure to find. The rest will follow. Well...after this little pep talk, I've got myself all jazzed for a night hunt (across the street at the town ball field). Working late and getting home even later really sucks but...it is peaceful and great way to wind down for the night. Welcome to the forum and have fun with that new V3!
