Hello Rick ND: your opinion valued as always

Hello Rick,
It has been along time since I have bugged you for your knowledge about a machine. I know you are a Sovereign GT fan, which you have convinced me to be one a couple of years back. It has been a great machine for me and I still love my MXT as well. My question is: Have you had a chance to play with the Fisher 75 or 70? Is it all hype about how good this machine really is in giving Explorer/GT depth on silver and yet able to find small/low conductive target like the MXT? If it is true, it sounds like the best of both worlds combined. Have you compared it to the GT and/or the MXT? Is it worth selling my GT or MXT to get one? Are you putting your GT in the closet for one of these machines? We can move over to the Fisher forum after this post, if need be.

And anyone else who has some information they would like to share is welcome. So please chime in, as I appreciate it.

Thanks again.

From Rick in San Jose.

What you say may or may not be true inland we'll have to see what others have to say who have used them there say. But on a saltwater beach the F70 and F75 are no better than any other single frequency machine and can't touch the Minelabs. A friend of mine has an F75 and by the time he lowers the sensitivity and raises the discrimination to compensate for the salt and maintain stability it's no match for a multifrequency machine. So far there doesn't seem to be anything out there than can take the crown away from Minelab when it comes to Ocean Beach Detectors though I hear the Whites Beachunter ID with the 12" coils are starting to give them a run for thier money ;)

yes the minelabs are still king at the beach but with the F75 you need to get it out of disc and into all metal motion, manually gb it and adjust the sens as needed also and it actually works pretty good, one of the better single freq detectors on and in salt water.
I still prefer the explorer though with the sov being second at the beach.

I have used both the F-75 and the F-70 along with my GT and the SE Pro I have. The Minelabs I use the most and will say the Fisher do have one thing over the Minelabs and that is they are lighter and can swing the coils faster. I do like the F-75 with the small coil on it as it can see between target better and seen where it has found coins others plus myself have missed with the Minelabs. As you know the MXT is a great detector but can not get the deeper coins the Sovereign can, but will get more overall coins in a given time, but they are new. The Fishers F-70 and the F-75 seem to be like the other Fishers as these too love iron and I do dig much more rusty bottle caps than I do with my GT. I have seen the F-75 and the F-70 see some very small target which is impressive and will say like Neil says that the all metal is very sensitive.
At this time if I could only keep one detector it would be a toss up between the Explorer SE Pro and the Sovereign GT and if I could have 3 then I would include the F-75 as I do like it and it has impressed me too, but I seem to find deeper coins with the Minelabs and more iron with the Fishers. I did do great with the F-75 and the small coil at a construction site that been hammered with the Explorers as this small coil was able to see between the trash better and if I go back I want to try my GT with a 8 inch Tornado coil or the SunRay 8 inch coil as i feel there maybe some good ones still hiding.
The GT and the SE Pro are still my favorites, but the F-75 and the F-70 do have a place in my group of detectors.

Thank Rick, Neil and Beachcomber,

I really appreciate your guys input, as you guys always help me make the right decisions before I find out the hard way. WOW!! Rick (ND). I never thought I would be hearing this from you but it seems like you are shifting your feeling from the GT to the Explorer Pro. That says a lot about the Explorer Pro. Keep playing with the Explorer and you may never look back at a Sovereign again.

Please keep us posted if you do go to the construction site again with the Sovereign and the 8-inch coil. I'm sure it is going to make a big difference and you'll probably find something things you missed, as you are an expert with the Sovereign's. The S-8 is my favorite coil and I use it 90% of the time on land.

Given what you guys have said, I think (if I can afford to keep these two detectors as well) I will get the TDI to compliment my line of detectors and not waste the money on an F-75, as it seems like the MXT is right there with it and I have 5-coils already for the MXT. It is still my all around favorite detector, since it is so versatile. If money gets tight, I will probably let the Sovereign go to get the TDI.

Thanks again you guys.
Have a great day and God Bless and happy hunting.

Sincerely,
Rick (SJ)

Rick has helped a lot of Sovereign user's including myself. There were five to six hunters hunting at the old horse track yesterday.I was confident following these Fisher,Whites and Garretts that the Sovereign GT would find the deep coins missed. The 1890 Seated Dime passed by the others (the wiggle a 180 meter lock) I found was about 11 inches down. Also found in the same area a 1864 IH a very strong target but ID ed lower than zinc which is another problem for other units.Like Rick said the GT is better than the older XS i used for years and he is right.

Thanks Ron for showing us how amazing the GT really is. You sure make it hard for me to say Goodbye to the GT to get the TDI. I think I will do my best to keep all 3 if I can.

The one thing I learned is that one detector doesn't work at all sites, so it is always good to have two or three others ones to see if they can handle the ground and environment in case your favorite machine doesn't perform. One time, a friend of mine went to Lake Tahoe and had several detectors (Excal, Surf PI Pro, Mxt, Explorer II and Quattro) to hit the beach. None of them worked except the MXT. He was shocked as I was. So I know the wife sometimes doesn't understand why we need more than one machine, but this is one good reason why. You go on a long road trip to hunt and the only machine you bring does perform well, so the trip just becomes a waste of time. I let a friend of mine borrow my surf PI when she went to Hawaii and it went crazy where she went. I went to Hawaii with it to a different island and it worked great. There must have been some electrical interference near by where she was.

Hey Ron, what coil were you using to get that deep? I only get about 8-9 inches with my S-8 here in California soil.

Thanks again for sharing.
Sincerely,
Rick (SJ)

Rick,I use the stock Sovereign GT 1000 Tornado Slimline coil. One of my favorite old park in my area has a lot of hot rocks and I'm required to run the sensitivity low or automatic to avoid false targets..Even with the GT in the auto mode I have recovered coins 6-8 inches. With most parks here I run the sensitivity in the ten o clock position and have recovered dimes at about a foot. The 10 inch coil performs well but it depends on ground conditions. The smaller S8 coil with a depth range of 8-9 inches has good performance in my opinion.I have used this coil and the Coinsearch,8 inch Excellarator concentric and the Tornado 800 and prefer the later with these choices. Ron

Thanks again Ron for your input. I was considering buying the S-12 for the GT, but you have convinced me that stock coil does fine. So I will save my money again. Boy, do I love chatting with you guys.

Have a great day and don't show me any more Seated Dimes that you pull out of the ground because I get jealous real easy. So far, the best I pulled out was a 1899 V nickle.

Sincerely,
Rick (SJ)
