just picked up the bounty hunter quicksilver looked around for a good starter detector with good reviews and stumbled across this one. no luck so far however my best find:a quarter and lots of rusted iron and nails lol

Welcome aboard. A find of any kind is a good start because you have started learning your equipment. Be sure to have read the manual and start picking up on the characteristics of your unit. Better finds will come in time. Good Luck and HH

Welcome to this site. You'll learn alot from all the pros out there. BY the way , I have a bounty hunter also and have had alot of luck. Rivermarine is right, read your manual and it will help you alot.
HAPPY HUNTING..

Welcome...I'm new here, too, so don't feel like you are the only one in the rowboat and you are going in circles. I have found these people to be fairly friendly, honest, and very willing to share their secrets, if not their gold and artifacts.:usan:

Welcome to the group treaszures1...I think you have stumbled upon one of the friendliest Metal Detecting groups on the web...Not a lot of snobs in here who think they are better than you because they spent $5000 on a detector your $200 machine will put to shame anyways....Everyone here has a story, and advice based on ACTUAL experiences...We are all here to share and help...Feel free to ask any questions you may have, even if they seem unimportant...We were all new at one time...

Happy Hunting,

GoGoGopher - Formerly BH-LandStar

thank you gogogopher.. the only question i have so far is,,, am i the only one who gets a strong signal (it was the coin signal) and cant find any dam thing.. lol.. that is pretty bad. it definitely was a strong signal, repeated strong and everything i even pinpointed where the signal was coming from.. it was on the deep depth setting my manual says deep setting detects usually 6.5 inches under i must have dug a foot lol, all for nothing...

ps still nothing good guys sorry just nails!!!!!!! lol

sometimes even with my landstar the target will end up being to the side of the pinpoint, thats where a good handheld pinpointer comes in handy. If you still cant find it keep it in mind that large iron objects deep as 1-2' will give a coin signal.

holy crap thanks 4 the info!

I dug a hole almost 2 feet deep once, and pulled up an old house radiator (did not actually pull it up, but could see what it was)...I was livid!!!!...all that work for that!!...LOL...:surrender:
Usually, most modern clad is no deeper that 4"...After that, it is usually old cans and the good stuff...if you have dug a foot and still no target, chances are it is a large piece of iron deep...

You aren't the only one that gets good sigs and find nothing, I wonder it the mole tunnels affect the detectors sometimes. Does anyone have an answer?

Underground hollow pockets, such as mole tunnels can theoretically effect a detector, the same way you sometimes get a signal when going from say grass to sand, or from level ground to an incline or when hunting over uneven terrain....
