Hello, I'm new to Tesoros

Orgelkraft

New member
After a stroke, fall and further head injury, I find myself with some "problems". I am a little more limited on what I can do physically, but I seem to have retained a usable amount of my "marbles"... I think...;-) I can't swing my old White's gear anymore, so It is going and I'm looking at the Compadre as a "stop gap" detector.

I (DID) pan for gold in Colorado, MD and walked the beaches of Florida part of the year. Things I want to start doing again. My question is... would I be better off with an older USED Tesoro model? If so, what should I look for? My theory is that the newer stuff (Compadre) is better than the older ones a model or two higher up the line. Is that assumption correct? I'm on a less than spectacular fixed income, so unless I stumble across a large gold nugget the latest and greatest is out of the question.

I was looking at a Vaquero before all of my "problems" started, Now I REALLY can't afford it, but I don't want to waste money on a detector that won't do what I need/want it to do. I don't really remember much about the Vaquero, but it is the one I thought would best meet my needs at that time. I had decided that my NEXT detector would be a Tesoro, I remember THAT anyway...

Welcome Mark , sorry to know you had problems like that, I think you will like the super light weight detector it will suit you just fine, wish full recovery for you Good Luck, HHH.

Sorry- I know the feeling. Wish you had gotten the Vaq. I have a Compadre and it's great-but would also like the Vaq. There's really not a bad Tesoro-and they're all about the same weight-light. One thing going for you-the Compadre is great on small gold.

Sounds like you had a bit of a rough go..and are now on the road to recovery. I think you would like the Compadre..It does it's thing very, very well.As mentioned it likes Gold items..
I would say go for it....pile up your finds and money finds.Convert all to cash as you go....and before you know it..You can get that Vaquero you have been thinking of..Paid for with the Compadre finds..

Keep us posted Sir ...............

Hi Mark, good to know you are doing well and still have some useable marbles left. You are mighty welcome here and in company I am sure of some others of us that aren't near bout what we used to be, marble wise and some otherwises.Me for sure. First off you done good choosing Tesoro, especially now that the limited income has come into play. Tesoro is no BS in having the best Warranty of all the others and plenty of folks to back it up with their own experiences with them. Me again for sure, with over 25 yrs. That will allow you to shop for that used Tesoro if you wish and know that "they" will repair it, check it out, retune, calabrate, or whatever, no matter how many previous owners, and likely not charge anything other than your one way ship to them. As for Tesoro older machines being "better"than some of the newer ones, well a lot of that is personal preference as just about all things detecting wise, but some of the older machines (tech) are said, with good reason,to seperate the goodies better in iron than some of the others. You will love the Compadre, no doubt about it. It will get the fine gold chains, and plenty other goodies too. It is newer, but also "old school"(Tech)so you can know you got a new oldie but goodie. Compadre was an Amigo II to begin with and only took on a new style dress. Vacquero is a real dirt hawg for when you are more able and and feel like like digging deeper.I hope that helped you some Mark and I sure hope you get 'weller"every day.I got you on my Prayer list now. HH, and keep asking anything you need to know. Got some good hands around here , always glad to jaw with you. Charlie

Mark,

First, sorry to hear of your troubles. I hope you situation improves.

Second, given your condition, you might want to get a detector that "cherry picks" a little bit better than a Compadre can.

I have just started using the Golden UMax and once you have the notch discrimination set where you want it, I can tell you for a fact that my trash digging has dropped considerably. I still dig some trash, just not as much as I used to. If you limit yourself to the high tones, all you'll dig are copper pennies and silver coins (and crushed aluminum cans and can slaw).

But bottle caps will practically be a thing of the past.

You can usually get these used at a very reasonable price if money is an issue.

Best of luck to you and my prayers to you for a steady recovery.

Hello Mark
Wishing you a full and speedy Recovery
As far as Tesoro's go, there light, and discriminate as good as anything out there.
I bought a used Cutlass II Umax off the classifieds and couldn't be happier with it.
It's become my go to detector for beep digging ghost towns and old homesites for relics.
At 63 yrs old with arthritis sitting in, weight becomes more and more of a factor.
I would recommend any Umax , there just a pleasure to use, and will bring home the keepers.
Not to mention the Fantasticservice

Cibola or Vaq .Either would be great. I have seen them sell used as low as 200.00. I have both and the Vaquero does have adjustable ground balance which is a big plus in bad soil. Glad you are doing better and the weight of the tesoros is a huge plus. Good luck.

Hello, so sorry for your health and I know with God's blessings you will be out digging in the dirt again before you know it!!!!! You will definately notice a big difference in weight on how the tesoro is compared to your whites units. I am not trying to tell you what to do but here is an idea, maybe you could sell your old whites machines to help fund a new tesoro metal detector. It is just an idea and please do not take it the wrong way. I have had alot of machines in the past but I keep comming back to tesoro for some reason. I think it is because they are so simple to use and light weight. Also tesoros seem to hold their value alot better than some of the other machines, so when your ready to upgrade if and when you want to, there will be no problem selling the current one you own.Good luck and keep us posted, Tim

Sorry to here about your Stroke, Etc..... I can understand kinda of what your going through, I had a major health Crisis myself several years back. Darn neared died from a blotched heart surgery. When I came out of my coma, I had trouble walking 5 feet. Most things came back slowly, but I hung in there. At the time I kept looking at my detector and dreamed about getting out there again.
I took small steps at first, then each week I could stay out a little longer. I now am able to do about 1 1/2 to 2 hours each time I go. I have to say having a tesoro which all seem to be light weight gave me a little more time detecting without the Fatigue I had with other detectors. The has Compadre some great report on this forum and doesn't brake the bank buying one. Good luck and keep at it!!!!

Thank you to everyone who replied! You have given me some things to think about. I have lots of stuff I plan to sell, including my old detectors. I really wouldn't mind getting a used unit if I could land one cheap enough. I see Tesoros on Craigslist from time to time, but I'm not familiar enough with "older" models to know what I would be buying. Better discrimination WOULD be good, as digging is the hardest part of the process now.

Thanks again to ALL,
Mark

Hello Mark Sorry about you health problems, but seems like you have the right outlook!:detecting: They have a classified section if you jump the forum on this site. You might find what you are looking for there. I have had my share of bad health and and back to MT after years away just to keep me moving.:wiggle:

Thanks for the tip, I didn't notice the classified section. Craigslist is loaded with First Texas brands of detectors, mostly BH. I only saw two Tesoros.. one Tej
