Hello from Scotland!(+NZ) ACE 350 help!

SCOTLAD350

New member
Hi, I've been using this forum forever and thought it was time I became a member!
I've been metal detecting for a few years now (was given an ACE 150 for Christmas and haven't looked back!)
I bought a 350 which I've had for about 2 years now and feel pretty confident with it, I remember my first couple of hunts were very frustrating! but this site helped a lot.
I'm travelling in New Zealand (soon to be heading to Australia) and some of the parks out here have never seen a detector! lots of silvers usually 1 each hunt. I'm
looking into getting a sniper coil for the 350 but was wondering about discriminating bottle caps and such---with a cap if i'm getting a signal under the "quarter" icon with a jump to iron on the DD
then what would the sniper coil show? would it still hit under the "quarter" icon? the parks out here are loaded with beer bottle caps and i don't dig them with the DD.
My trusty sherlock pinpointer has finally died after 3 years of service-which is a great excuse to buy a propointer!
my good lady is from NYC so has picked one up on a trip home which I will get tomorrow, looking forward to trying it out.

Thanks in advance!

happy digging......:goodnight:

that's a great ?.......I got the sniper for my 350 a few months ago....I rarely take it off no matter where I hunt. I can't answer ur question but I can tell u the sniper is solid on the 350. My findings have gone up and what's great is it makes u be patient while hunting...keep it low and slow. Pin pointing is deadd on overytime also. U will like it. The dd coil seems to get me a ton more trash. I may be nuts but I don't seem to dig near the trash with the sniper on the 350.

G'day Scotlad.
DD coils are normally more easily fooled by steel targets than concentric coils. Something that is universal to all coils is that an iron target will give itself up as an iron target, once it passes under the out edge of the coil, even though they can sound good under the centre of the coil. Youb are very lucky if you are detecting in NZ as there isn't a single detecting shop in the country. I was on the South Island last Christmas (almost wishing that I'd packed a detector. Time didn't allow for it on that trip). The sad news with Kiwi coins is that the smaller denomination coins are now iron core coins, but there $1 and $2 coins hit like our Aussie $1 and $2 coins! They are great to detect.
You'll love the Pro Pointer. Although I own high quality pinpointer (UniPro Pocket probe) I usually didn't take a pinpointer out with me when I went detecting; till I bought the Pro Pointer. Now I take it out on all my hunts. About the only detector that I didn't take it out with was my Ace250. The Ace, with it's elliptical concentric coil was just plain deadly when it came to pinpoint accuracy. I have used a detector that was as accurate as it, apart from small coils, but even then, I just loved that coil.
