Hello! My 7 year old son and I have been detecting since May and really enjoy the hobby. I have done lots of research to insure we have good luck and represent this activity in good light. We started with a bounty hunter quick silver and quickly moved up to the Ace 350 and a pro pointer which I really like. Easy for me and my boy. So far we have not done to bad. Our most notable finds are a 1925 and 1919 mercury dime a 1906 IH a 1966 Canadian dime and a women's 1995 class ring from Richwoods that we were able to return the same day. All at local parks, mostly Bradley near old wading pool.
I think it's cool there is a club in the area and see that you guys are finding some great stuff. My boy and I may be interested in joining sometime in the future. Sounds like a fairly active club.
Anyway I was wondering if you guy's are mostly doing private properties cause I am finding most parks have been cherry picked over. Finding pennies and clad is ok but my son is a coin collector and that is the main reason we got into this. I'm a little nervous about knocking on doors and not sure if I need some kind of insurance to put people's mind at ease. I have done lots of research on our area (lots of fun to, very interesting history here) and see lots of interesting places, old farms, churches, the old drag strip "boondocks" looks interesting and many more. Would never do any without permission, not how I want to teach my son or represent the hobby. Would love to hear tips, advice, or secrets you may have. Thanks.
Anywho enjoy your post and pics, hello from Bartonville and maybe we'll see you around.
HH!, Troy
