Been detecting since 1970, and currently use an MXT. I was wondering if any of you kind folks have ever tried the 'prospecting' mode? Any tips would be helpful, the machine does great in the c/j and relic modes, just wondering if I can get a bit more depth? I started out with a White's Coinmaster IV in 1970 so I don't mind digging up lots of junk signals. I was also wondering if it's OK to post a link to my meager website (with some of my finds through the years),,,the site has links to other MD Forums, just thought I would ask first, don't want to cause any hassles with this forum:) The pic above is from my
Merc Dime collection, the rest can be seen if it's ok to post a link:) Happy Hunting from New Hampshire!

I've found the best depth to be in the c/j mode on higher gain than the factory settings. I've tried the prospecting mode a bit on some gold claims here in Montana and it does great, although the meter is just telling you the percent of iron in the object. This is great in open areas where there is not much metal in the ground since the prospecting mode is basically an all metal mode. The prospecing mode is not very useful in high traffic areas just as yards, parks and such since there is a lot of trash in the ground that does not consist of iron.
