Hello Everyone

YARDFISHING

New member
Just wanted to say hello. New to the forum but not metal detecting. Currently I have an MXT and am wanting to move up to a V3i. Been doing alot of lurking here. Looks like good folks with lots of information. Looking forward to learning more about all detectors. Thanks for all the info so far and thanks for the info to come.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm from central Illinois. Been detecting for about 5 years with the MXT and am planning on getting a v3i. Just doing a bunch of reading and watching the videos over and over before the weather breaks. My oldest penny to date is an 1864 Indian , Nickel 2- shield nickels(no dates), 1875 50 centivos (Not one of the silver ones), Dime-1898 Barber, Quarter Standing Liberty(No date). A few silver rings and no gold. Just spent the fall hunting a farm field where a house stood in the late 1800's found 20 Indians and the 2 shield nickels there. Can't wait to get the v3i so i can see just how frustated i can get.
Neil in West Jersey- seems like i have ran across video on youtube under that name. But after awhile of watching so many videos it all starts to run together. Thanks for the welcome and can't wait to learn a new machine.

hey im from quincy il and i started with the mxt then went to the v3 youll love it welcome to the forum

Where at in Central IL, I live in Eureka and there is a very good detecting club based in Peoria. There is a lot of V3i users in Central IL too.

I am about 3hrs south of Peoria. Shelbyville to be exact. No clubs near here without having to travel a few hours. I know it sounds crazy to call this Central illinois when it is still Central Illinois that far north but i think you have to get south of Effingham to be considered Southern Illinois. Thank God for Tall states huh? I think there are a few clubs in Springfield but that is still over an hour from me. So far I got a couple of new places to detect locally in the spring. One happens to be a 4 acre farm field that was a brick factory back in the early 1900's. Hoping this one turns out good. Always working on good leads though.

 Central IL does cover a lot of territory.

That is actually a good thing ... you got all those old farm homes to detect all to yourself.
Start meeting your neighbors and letting them know you like dirt fishing for old coins.
Ask them if anything of value has ever been lost on their property and if they would let you try to find it for them.
Ask then to let you keep any old coins ... but if you find jewelry ... tell them they can have it if they want it.
If you are up front and honest ... word will get out and you will have more places to hunt than you can count.
You will be surprised at the good leads you will get.
