I found your forum last night via Google and I was so thrilled. I joined another forum a couple of weeks ago, but little did I know how much T2 SE talk I was missing!! :surprised:

On Sunday, I plan to go out to an old little league baseball park with three fields in North Georgia that dates back to the mid 60's. Though it has not been used for organized activities for almost 15 years, the city keeps the grass cut. I just want to go out and have some fun and not be overwhelmed by interpreting sounds and picking up boat loads of trash. I fully realize that I have months/years of training ahead of me, since this is my first MD experience. But for now I just want to go out have fun and get some good solid signals.

To that end, I am thinking about going with 75 sensitivity, 40 discrimination, 2+tone. I can't wait till the day I can use/understand the "process" , but for today, I just want uncomplicated fun. What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Brian

You may want to consider for the first few hours preset..Unless of course you are an experienced Metal Detectorist.

You will hear many targets in the ground, and have very fast Id's and tones for only a few seconds on the T2... Many become overwhelmed with all the targets sounding off.

In fact in the past some have even thought the machine was not operating properly..when in fact it was.. The T2 sees targets so quickly you'll hear targets other machines did not hear due to masking by the nearby targets....... Again just my thoughts, and in no way trying to tell you what to do..

The preset is 60 sensitivity, discrimination 10 and tones 1. I was just thinking that having disc. at 10 would lead to a lot of trash digging and iron since according to the manual iron is discriminated at 40.
That was my thinking process. Of course in my world it is currently theoretical. But then again, if the pre-start is good enough for the developers then maybe I should listen. I just did not want to spend my first outing diggin' up pull tabs. :rage:

Thanks for the reply,

Brian

Try the 40 disc. see how you like it....that will cut off a lot of beeps for sure.. may even work better for a new user. Good Luck and be sure and post up your finds..

Welcome to the forum..

Lately on my standard T2 I've been using 60 sens 51 disc and 3 tones that may be a nightmare to some but it has put some new life into a dead spot I have been pounding for years with many different detector and coil combinations .

Its gonna be tough to just sort of hold back and get a grip....Your excitement level will be through the roof, so, Id say stick to the presets, and work on proper form.
A steady level swing, a comfortable stride, concentrating on the coil position and the overlap, you may have to stop and adjust the length of the shaft so its perfect for you.
and you will learn about how your tools and extraction gear either are a help or a hindrance depending upon the spot...Wow..theres just so much...that can only be learned by doing, so I dont want to get carried away here...Hell, just turn it on and go, dig everything, and report back with your observations! Have Fun ATL!

I bet it did kick the old girl up...........Remember over 50 in disc. She goes into overdrive ......

Personally, I would max the disc so you are only getting coins, nothing else. The T2 is a mean machine but with a learning curve, Start slow and easy. You can lower the disc later on down the road. Plus a DD coil, which is the T2 stock coil, also has a learning curve. Just my advice as I owned a T2.

A tip: DD coils (all manufacturers) have a tendency to misread targets within approx 3" of coil bottom both in audio signal/target ID numbers. So if you get a signal that is loud and is acting erratically, raise the coil 3" and re-sweep the target. And the center of your 11" DD coil is the little dot that looks like a plastic injection moulding mark. There is one dot on top/bottom of the coil.

You are spot on about being excited. My FedEx for my detector arrived today. However, I had to work till 11 PM, so I have decided to wait until tomorrow night or Saturday to put it together when I am more rested. My plan is to put it together and learn how to "fast grab" ground cancellation and play around in my front yard. The plan of mice and men is to hunt on Sundays between 7 am and noon. This will give a solid 4-5 hours of searching. I figure if I am home by noonish my wife cannot blow a gasket about spending too much time on my new hobby.

I've been married to the same girl for lets see...33 years? She has seen me get involved with lots of hobbies/interests over this time, however, she has never gotten the amount of jewelry out of me like this metal detecting has brought! Theres no way they can ever accuse you of "stepping out" when you come home all grubby with a fistfull of pennies...so, I think they accept this activity more so than others from us.

Thanks for all the info you shared about the T2 especially about the over 50 discrimination . It really got me squared away . One more thing I would like to say about the T2 , keep those swings flat and even to the ground .

Probably have already read this as I have posted it many times. But here are two tests that show how disc affects gain (overall sensitivity) on the T2/T2 LTD.

Using a 14 month old T2 LTD, 11

Yes, I have read almost 50 pages of entries and had already booked mark your post. It is this kind of information and the "process" that really make this the go to tekentics forum. I appreciate everything you guys do and the fact that you are willing to share. I am about ready to start putting my metal detector together this Saturday afternoon. Look out, first trip is tomorrow. I plan on hunting from 7am to 11am.
