May I first shake your and and bow to the ladies.............

I have a whiting company close bye and have talked to them.. a bit today....

Was thinking of going there this weekend... I love the idea of getting a really good one... but then I need pouches and pin pointer and something to dig.. and of course a case or cover to store it in.. and I'm sooo confused.. with this... I think after getting all of this will run somewhere in the range of 1 thousand...
And you know it..Rob.. once I make enough to replace the money I bought with it... I will get a much better one... and maybe sell the one I have first... ( so what one is good for resell? ) Or maybe give to the wife.. if she wants it.. I don't know... she thinks I'm silly.. because she tells me I will not get rish.. doing this... I believe I wall hae the last laugh.. and I tell you if I can make enough moeny to pay for my 500.00 meds a month. I will be happy..

So what you think I should look at when I go over the weekend... and what extras will I need for sure? I want to write this down so I don't forget...

Thanks everyone.. and I have not seen an clubs in my area.. maybe I don't know where to look..

I'm sure you will have lots of suggestion from the good folks on this forum. Monte had some good thoughts when he responed to one of your posts. My advise is get good enough detector so you can grow into it. I'm partial to knobs instead of scrolling through touch pads to make adjustments with. So if looking for a new White's.......a M6 or MXT would fill the bill for me. Of coarse my newest White's detector is an IDX Pro made in 2005 and discontinued in the same year. Good luck!

Randy

Whites Coinmaster is a good basic detector.
M6 and MXT also good hardly any learning curve.
I've used the MXT all last summer finding around $400 in clad plus some gold rings and
silver coins and silver rings.
Don't expect to get rich doing this ,consider it a hobby and good form of exercises.
$ 500 a month unless you find caches::detecting:

No no.. I'm not looking to get rich..... far from it..
I will look into them..

Is there a list of things I will need ... kinda of a package of things I will need to start.. knee pads and that kind of stuff..

Welcome to this hobby....and thats pretty much what it is. Oh, and like was said above...you aint gonna get rich at it. BUT, it is possible, find a cache...or find the occasional ring that is worth some bucks. It does happen. Not to me....<laugh> But it does happen...mostly to others...anyway...no, the most valuable ring I ever found was one that was a diamond/topaz mix on a 14k band. Worth about 600 bucks or so. My wife ummmmmmm...welll...if you are married and find rings like that...well, figure on them finding their way to her jewlery box. And you are SMART to let it. Cause....the more that find their way there, the more the ol ball and chain....well...will be happy with your hobby.
If you cant get her involved...then let her have a pick of any jewlery....you be safe that way and she wont mind you spending more on your new hobby. If you want to call it bribery....so be it...it works..:cheekkiss:

As to your first detector...recommendation. Before you sink a bunch of money. Might I suggest a good starting detector that is a pretty decent working one and will allow you to get involved in the hobby and find out for sure if you will like it. That detector is an ACE 250. I know, this is the Whites forum.. Its decent one...and if you get the package from Kellyco...talk to JW, It will have all the stuff you need. A comparable whites, would be the Classic 5ID though its a bit more expensive than the Ace, And yes....the MXT would be another one to get...and maybe you could get both...a good backup is always a plus. And for a grand...you could come close if you talk to JW at Kellyco. Believe me. And no...I dont work for them. Known JW for a good many years. There are several other dealers that are sponsors here that will also do good by you.

I have a DFX now that I use...I used to have an MXT but goofed and sold it a few years back. Wish I hadnt now, but thats life. The other ones I have for now are, an Infinium LS and a GTI 2500. Also a Detector Pro PI and assorted probes and other odds and ends.

Also, you might consider buying a used one. You can find some good deals, here and on other forums as well, and as long as you are careful you will do ok going that route. I dont mention ebay...cause for some reason, detectors are getting bid up alot there now, especially by overseas buyers since the value of the buck has gone down so much. Cheaper for them, more expensive for you.

Anyway, good luck to ya...and again...welcome to this great hobby.

Welcome to the HOBBY, and it is a great one. I have found enough stuff in the last ten years to pay for all of my detectors. Note: I did say 10 yrs, it is possible to make that rare find, but I do it because it is fun, good exercise, and its great to be outdoors. In my arsenal of supplies I have a White's spectrum xlt, a Bounty hunter pioneer 202, a Bounty hunter 505 pro, and a Minelab Safari. I can take my kids with me detecting, or just have a buddy go with me and I'll supply a machine. I use kneepads, a canvas nail apron, a Garrett Pro pointer, a butcherknife with the point rounded off, as well as a digger tool. Mechanix type gloves are good and can save your fingers from getting cut up. A small towel to put dirt on, and then fill the hole back in with the dirt pile on the towel. Lots of patience and good weather. Make sure you check local laws regarding detecting parks and schools, and always get permission to detect private property. If I missed something someone else can add a post. Good luck in this exciting hobby, and always fill your holes. This will help keep our hobby in better standing with the general public. Ron
