Hello 705 users.question please

Now that the Xterra-705 has been out for a while..whats the opinions on them ?.

More depth ?
Better ground balance ?
Better target responses ?

What makes you like it better than the original X-70..Or what makes you not like it as much ??

Thanks for the responses I hope you will take time to post.

Can't compare the 2 El. I like mine for most of what I do so far. It appears that coil choise influences depth a BUNCH. I will get a 10.5 MF DD then we'll see how deep. Though I have hit a few good coins in my rookie season. I stick to primarly old coin but machine seems to do good for clad haven't gone after jewlery at park. Very little park hunting so far.

I still think that A guy should have 2 machines for different styles of hunting, mabey 3 even.

You seem to have ran a few different MDs what have you ran and what did you like and dislike about them. Also what style of hunting did you get them for and what type of hunter are you. You know old coin, clad, trashy areas, jewlery, gold prospecting.

Thanks
Jeff

10cm more depth in the air with Coin/Relic Mode than the X-Terra70.
Better/Faster Ground Balance (only slight).
Faster Response Time and slightly more sensitivity.

I like the all-black finish. I also like that it has a backlight although this feature is more useful on the beaches after dark.

I don't personally see a need to upgrade from my own X-Terra 70 just yet. But the 'slight' improvements are more than a nice addition to make the newer 705 an ideal multi-purpose detector.

El, I believe my 705 does have more depth capabilities and is more sensitive than the X-70. Without knowing the technical reason, I would have to surmise it has to do with the upgraded software. I think the enhanced software also allows me to sweep the 705 a bit slower, while remaining stable. I don't notice the standard GB being anymore precise than the X-70. But I do like the ability to offset the Tracking either positive or negative. Something else I have noticed with the 705, compared to the X-70, is the audio report on deep targets. Like just about every other single frequency VLF detector out there, the X-70 seemed to be a "go or no-go" on deep targets. In other words, it would either it hit them with a good audio report or they'd be too deep to hear them at all. With the 705 in multiple tone, all metal mode (which I typically use for both the X-70 and 705), I am able to hear a slight "echo" audio or "whisper" on the deepest of the deep. Again, I would attribute that to the software upgrade. The X-70 is a great detector and it hunts darn deep. But the 705 has been able to go back to some of the sites I've hit with a lot of different detectors, and sniff out some pretty deep coins. JMHO HH Randy

Yes I have had a few detectors.

I am loving the SePro.it's deep stable and operates flawlessly.

I Like the Xterra 50 and found many old Indian pennies at 8 and 9" deep.

I did not have great luck with the X-70..hence my question about the differences.

I am mostly a coin hunter. In heavy trashed 150 year old areas that were homes, along a river front, and now Parks.
I also hunt a lot of Farm sites. loaded with iron targets. The Xterra 70 seemed to like the iron a bit more than I liked digging it.

One thing..I have had great results with the T2..I know not cool on this forum, but Jeff asked... Digger please feel free to delete this part if you must.

Elton, I too, like the T2, awesome detector, but I also very much like the ability of the 705 to adapt to different hunting scenarios. I think that the x-terras are a "thinking mans" detector. Kind of like the differerence between power boating, and sailing. -- In order to appreciate the X-terras, you have to love the hobby. IMHO, not really a " turn on and go detector" --- Probably the BEST thing about the X-terras is this excellent forum, with it's many active and qualified members who frequent it. The amount of knowledge in the FAQFAQ's is in a class all it's own. ............

ya know I wouldn't delete your posts.  And although I don't have any problem distinguishing deep iron with my X-Terras (send me a PM if you want some tips), I will agree that the T2 is a good detector. In fact, if I had to use a FT product today, it would be the T2. It seems to me to be the most stable unit in their lineup. JMHO HH Randy

The xterra's are every bit as good as any detector on the market. And far better than some.
