Hell and High Water at Bermuda Surf Church

Besco and BDA had the first Bermuda Surf Church today at Horseshoe Bay. Gale force winds and high surf made for an interesting hunt.

Dawn at Horseshoe Bay (what were we thinking??)

Horseshoe Bay is perhaps the busiest beach in Bermuda and we were determined to hunt it today regardless of the weather and daylight saving time adjustment. We hit the beach a little after 6:30 am and worked it for a few fruitless hours. With the rollers coming in we just couldn't make it out to the mine and glory. BDA settled for some clad including a 1 pound british coin. BESCO snagged a bus token ($4.00) and a fifty pence british coin plus regular clad. We both scored a junker ring each but that was it.
We are determined to hit this beach again when conditions are better and we can get to the goodies that were about 50 feet beyond our reach based upon the surf break today. Bermuda Surf Church has a small congregation but we had fun just the same.

C'est le Guerre!

Cheers,

Water temp is a balmy 73 degrees F but gale force winds and 4 foot surf made it chilly without the wet suit.
I sure had fun though.

Kewl,

where there is a cave in the rocks behind you? We had a great time there and snorkled out to the rocks behind you looking for parrot fish. I was hoping to see one parrot fish, but hit it right and saw about 100 of them. Beautiful island for sure. Spent a bunch of time down at the end of the island at and old fort and museum. They really had some nice old Spanish gold on display.

It was Januray when we were there then and had the entiere beach to ourselves. Still a great memory. Beautiful pictures.

There is a hole through the rock behind Besco in the 3rd picture, it has a strong current running through it that will suck you in if you are not careful around it, no cave there anymore. You may be thinking of Jacob's Hole however which has a few protected areas with some caves. There used to be a natural arch on the beach at Horseshoe Bay but Hurricane Farian knocked it down, a shame really.
I live a mile from the old Royal Naval Dockyard you mentioned and they still have some gold on display that was donated by Teddy Tucker the famous treasure diver that the movie "The Deep" was based on.
Bermuda is a fairly small island (only 23 square miles) but it has plenty of interesting places to hunt and a lot of history.

I hope you come back for a visit soon, bring your detector.

Cheers,

at the Bermudiana in Hamiliton and then took the bus or cab out to the Horseshoe beach area and all around. Out at the fort, or St George's, it was all really nice. I have a bunch of pictures here of it. Really friendly people also. The food was top shelf as well as the rum swissle shop...LOL.... The only problem I had there was down in a cave. I was on the dock crossing the pond in the cave and made the mistake of reaching in to touch the water, I became the shortest path for the electrics. I flung my self backwards and got loose, but it brook me of that habit.

When were ere there they were still digging out some of the old fort there down by you. Really enjoyed it there. Love to detect there one of these days. I wasn't doing it then but was into diving then. Sure enjoyed the clear waters and beautiful fish.

Thanks for reply.
