While checking out an old park in Myrtle Beach Idug up a 3 to 4 lb..block of lead. Its covered in a whitish patina and multiple knife cut marks on it.Wondering if it was used during the civil war to make bullets in the field.Any thoughts about its use or value Thanks,John

John...I lived in the Richmond Va area for a number of years and dug quite a few civil war relics. The most common dug cw item are bullets, lead and molds for making bullets. At one time I had a box full of blocks of lead with white patina that I dug from camp sites. It is very unusual to dig a block of lead that size. I have found blocks that weigh a half pound. Most of the lead found is after the pour has been made and there is not enough left to make a bullet. As you can see in the pic I posted most of the lead is in small amounts. The piece in the forefront also has knife marks in it. I would like to see a pic of the lead you found.
