Heavy-Duty Sifter, Non-Metalic

A very handy little toy this--my last one saw a lot of gold on it untill I ungratefully drove away and left it at a beach. Note the cut front notch for your scoop, handle goes through the back. (Don't let it slither out when you are not looking!)
A few pointers:
-the side mesh is for eaves, sold in small rolls. The wider stuff comes in large expensive rolls that will be a lot more than you need. It's too fragile for the middle and will deteriorate as your scoop hits it.
-the center mesh is from a "liche fruit" basket--they're around. Cut out the bottom but save the small side mesh sections for patches--it does not last in mineralized water.
-when you cut your "zip" ties, use a serrated knife. If you just nip them off they leave a sharp edge that will need to be filed smooth.
-not shown is a lanyard--get a good one from a climbing store--cheap ones don't last.
-if you can get a smaller speciallty bread rack--they are lighter to carry.
-use the largest diameter noodles you can find--they will support more than one basket.

Great for setting your scoop and detector on while getting to your hunting spot if you hunt calm waters. Easy to quick scan if you can't find the target since there is no metal on the sifter.....And the larger one I have now down sized due to the weight, about 3/4 the size now....A little video guide on the sifter,

Very durable!

I'm on my third year of using this one and it is great!

I have removed the green screen though as un-necessary, although it was useful for quickly taking out large stones..

PS the pan was free from our local recycling center where a commercial fisherman dumped several totes they used for bait etc.

The idea complete with hundreds of 3/16" holes came from CaptainCosmic.

For calm waters ... it sure looks like the ticket to target recovery. OBN helped me with materials; now I need to hunt some of the calm water areas!!!

Ya, not bad OBN, thought of going the PVC route myself b ut was concerned about: a) leaks from a bash and: b) it not having as much flotation as foam. Some of these preservers will hold more than a person's weight with very little mass of foam. I tried disecting one but its all in flat strips that would need to be packed and secured somehow. Yours is compact though where as mine is a bit of a tank to carry or transport in a vehicle.

man i have to tell you guys i use my sifter all the time. the only water condition that i have to worry about is if i can take it not the sifter!!!! i have used my sifter in 6 ft waves on lake michigan just to prove that nobody with any sense would be out in waves half that size. couldn't get any pictures cause i was getting knocked around. sifter did fine i didn't!!!! i use a tube and it is vulnerable to all things sharp but usually they last 2 years if i coat them with armoral to protect from the sun.and don't drag it on land.

i use a vibra probe to find the small stuff that is impossible to find with the naked eye in amounst the matrix. sifter has increased not only my small finds but my finds in general because i spend more time looking for targets in the bottom instead of in my scoop. i have incorporated cupajo's great idea of using a small anchor attached to the sifter on about 6 ft of light rope. i attach sifter to my finds belt/pouch with about 6 ft of rope and then throw the anchor overboard. its effortless to drag, keeps the sifter from crowding you in downwind, curret or wave situations and leaves a nice drag mark if you happen to have good visibility so you can see where you have been.

my sifter will float my scoop, detector, several scoops of bottom vibra probe, junk bag water bottle and me! so it could be used in an emergency to keep you aflote.

i clip it to my scoop and put it on my shoulder for transport to and from the water so it really doesn't add much effort to get it there and once in the water it is effortless.

it is like a turtle out of water though for those that move in and out of the water during their hunting. i stay in the water usually waste deep and deeper.

When hunting in the sugar sand at lake michigan this is often what you see in your sifter.

i find it indespensible and won't go without it!

As you can see you can make them out just about anything that floats and they don't cost hardly anything so what have you got to loose by giving 1 a try.

Just my 2 cents worth.

NIce Kaptian, I like the boat behnd you also...Now that's the ticket....

the boat makes it even easier to get everything to the water to hunt. take the old barge out to all of the local sand bars (even the not so local ones) and pilage. arrrrgggg! its nice to be able to get out of the sun or rain and take a break every once in a while. she don't measure up to the big lake though.

Joe in Maryland...sifter like CJC's non/metalic......Notice he swinigs over the sifter with the fisher cz too see if he has it, I took the idea from joe on the sifter a few years ago, joe is out there just about every Summer Sunday morrning, and does very well, Now if I can slip up north and catch CJC, that would be a Video for sure.............
