[/img] Wednesday was a heart breaker for me lost my sweet female black lab 5 years old Belle . Got home from work grab the dummy and started throwing it down the driveway for Belle second time I threw it she ran down the driveway toward the left side which is lined with rocks , as she was picking it up on the run she slipped and landed on her side and hit a rock with her back . she let out a screaming bawl and got up in the sitting position .I was down there in a second , she tried pulling herself up the drive way and I could see her tail wasn't wagging and her back legs were limp ,my heart sank . I got her in the car and headed to the vets which was 60 miles away because my vet was closed . I new when I was driving see would not be coming home alive with me .I got to the vets and he said it was a spinal cord rupture and there was a lot they could try to do for her . But I ask how she would be after thousands of dollars of surgery and care , he said she probably would not walk again . Heartbreaking decision for me I said to put her down , she died in my arms . I felt so helpless not be able to do anything for her . She was the sweetest lab I have ever owned always there at my side .always waiting for that pet , just a true friend . Well I went to the fairgrounds today to see what I could find dug one coin and said that's good enough 1989 quarter . Well be going out next weekend for a full day , packing for Idaho elk hunting this weekend so I can get in some detecting time next weekend . sube

I'm so sorry to hear that sube, what a sad story.----It's just like loosing a family member I know because that's what they are.----They give you unconditional love & ask nothing in return.---My heart goes out to you man.---------Del

I am very sorry for your loss. Doing what you have done is one of the most painful things I have ever done myself, and I truly sympathize.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I've been a multi-dog person most of my life and the hardest thing is putting them down. I'll always have dog around me because they are so loyal and fun, but I know that day will come. In my opinion the best thing you can do is be with them at the end. They were always there for you. My heart breaks for you.

Sorry to hear about your lab. I lost my male black lab last Dec. In time the hurt mellows but it never fully leaves. I ended up diving into it again and bought a 7 week old black lab. she has sure helped a lot.

What a great group of people we have here , Thanks for all the comments . I can't say enough about the fine people we have on the forum . As ron948 says get another dog . I'm going to get another lab this winter after hunting season and hope she's half the dog belle was . Thanks again for all the posts now get out there and post some picks of some finds . Thank you , sube

Sube, sorry for your loss. I had a German Shorthair that I was fortunate to be friends with for 12 great years. When I finally had to put him down, it was like my heart had been cut out and I was depressed for quite some time. Finally, a friend sent me this article called "Rainbow Bridge". I don't know if it's the way things will actually work, but I sure hope that it is. Anyway, it gave me some hope during my loss and I'll pass it on to you.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sube sorry for your loss. Although I don't have a dog, my cat died in my arms 8 years ago so I know how heart broken you feel. Hang in there...you have many people here who care.

So sorry to hear this. I've had two real friends in the last 25 years and had to put both down. It's been about 8 years since I've had a dog. They are a real joy to have around, just don't think I can do another loss. Someday tho, I'll run a set of little puppy eyes that I can't resist. Been able to fight it so far.
