Hearing the threshold?

I am reading and seeing alot of diff. "trashy place" programs. I am wondering why the iron upper left is left open.Does the detector (expl.xs)work better when you hear the threshold? Would I be missing targets if I blacken out the Iron?

I don't think we are going to miss targets if we hear the threshold null over iron. That is more of a preferece issue than anything in my opinion and depends a lot of the skill and experience of the user. I prefer to hear the threshold as much as I can and use ferrous sounds as I can pick coins out of shallow and deep iron better than if the threshold nulls over iron and I use conductive sounds. I don't see anything in particular that is special about the program other than a way to keep the threshold from being in null as much. It is just another way to hunt that some may like not a lot different than any of the others that we see posted.

I would think that if you are disc'ing out iron, and you run your coil over a large iron bar for example...your threshold nulls...over that target...IF you had a dime right at the end of that iron bar, it's possible you will also be nulling over the dime. When it comes to electronics...especially anything digital, there is a recovery time as you know...and I see no reason why that same theory doesn't apply to threshold nulling. Just my two cents.

I understand what you are saying and agree that it may or may not miss a target at the end of the bar depending on recover of the null. What I was responding to was if FE coins is open or closed does not mean you are going to miss or find good targets. It is just another aid in finding coins in soil with a lot of iron.

The FE coins option is for allowing some Canadian or other coins which are magnetic to be detected when using descrimination to eliminate iron signals. It has nothing to do with finding non-ferrous coins in heavy iron areas. If there is an advantage in that respect it is coincidental and was not what the function was designed to accomplish.

We understand the purpose and no is saying that is the purpose of FE coins. What was said is FE coins can be used as a quick way for users that have not gone into the edit screen use to open up digital readings in the area of 31/31.
I have no idea where you are on this but you might want to read the discussions that deal with ferrous sounds and ferrous content of metals.

Cody,
I was responding to your post above in which I have highlighted the quote below.
What I was responding to was if FE coins is open or closed does not mean you are going to miss or find good targets. It is just another aid in finding coins in soil with a lot of iron.
Sorry if I mis-read your post.

I understand and wanted to explain that FE Coin became an easy way to respond to questions rather than try to explain the width and height set in the edit mode in an attempt to restore most of the threshold while discriminating. This is part of the difficulty with forum posting and attempting to follow a thread as you know. I think I can speak for most participants when I say I appreciate all constructive comments and look forward to learning as much as I can about a great detector. That includes the products from Sun Ray and I do appreciate the support from all of you.

Cody,
I have to quickly scan these forums as time does not permit me to read each and every post. I normally do not get involved in posting as a rule unless something catches my eye that needs clarifying or unless it pertains to our products, etc. I do enjoy reading your helpful posts when time permits.
