Hi HappyHour, the hearing aids I got through the VA appear to be identical to some I see advertised on TV, except mine do not have a volume control. They are very small and are fit to the inside of my ear and can be worn with headphones. Normally when wearing them and not detecting they do improve my hearing a great deal , so much so that I feel like I hear way more than I "want" to hear. It is probably because certain sounds(tones?) become harsh and downright hurt my ears. For instance, keys rattling together drives me nuts, or dishes/plates clanging together absolutely hurt my ears. Must be habit and old age but they are truly annoying when I hear so much extra stuff going on in my head I feel it is more of a distraction by wearing them than not. Sounds crazy and I may just need to wear them more often and get more accustomed to them. I have tried. I do wonder though how" much" the aids change the sounds I have grown to recognize coming in over the phones? They change for sure. I have worn them several times detecting, trying to get used to them, but even if they don't hurt after awhile I still remove them for the comfort of less sound. Yeah, does sound crazy and certainly not likely so crazy to someone with 50% hearing loss. Such phones may help in such hearing loss. I still have a Depth Master that I use from years ago that I bought trying to boost my hearing some. Be cool if you could find and try some of them. I thought I would mention all that in case it would help in some way. My dig finds have always been enough for me to be content with in spite of my hearing loss. Many of us have loss of certain "tones", making everyone's hearing different , thus harder to find any one aid that works real good for everyone. It is a matter of aids/phones needing to refine tones, more so than bumping up volume on everything. Just hang in there and keep looking an trying. Maybe something good will show up. HH, Charlie
