Heaphone question with whites eagle spectrum?

Hi,

Just got a whites eagle spectrum and I have a pair of timberwolf predator headphones. When I plug into the detector there is no sound even when I switch the clipper switch. I know the headphones are good cuz I use them with my explorer all the time. I have a pair of cheap walkman type headphones that work when I use a 1/4" adaptor but only get sound out of one ear using them. I know some detectors have to use certain headphones to work properly is that the case with the eagle spectrum? I can use the cheap ones but its annoying only hearing out of one ear knowing I have really good headphones to use. Also I know some jacks have two black stripes on the the plug and some only have one which i assume makes them stereo or mono. Are whites setup for stereo or mono and how do you know which is which with the number of stripes on the headphone plug?

Like my self i had to try different headphones before i got the write ones to work with the detector .then you will have to keep for the correct detector or detectors Good luck

Eagle Spectrum is not Stereo only Mono, my earphones have a switch to change between the two. With stereo earphones you will only get sound on one side.

radio shack sells an adapter plug that will make sound come into both ears on the spectrum as stated earlier it is a mono detector, I think the adapter is around 5 dollars

If you buy a mono plug you can rewire the headphones to mono.
Take the red and white wire and solder them to the tip connector and solder the ground to the ground connector.
You will not need to add a adapter.
