heads up for quality control at Minelab

Bought a NEW Excal 2 waited at least 5 months for it. Noticed the adapter plug that fits on to the plug charger cord did not seat all the down on to the battery. Tried to charge the battery. The battery did get warm.Tried to connect the wire from the unit to the battery and noticed the same problem the connector would not seat all the down on the battery of the unit making an 1/16 to 1/8 gap between the battery and the plug of the unit.Tried to start the unit up Silence.
I should have known better than to even see if it was working . The unit is not waterproof since the gap would allow water to seep onto the battery.
Called mineb. got the will call you back in 24 hours . ,this will be some time Monday. I will try a new battery pack to see if that is the problem. If not that I want a new machine. Wish I had an Alkaline battery pack to check it out. . Any suggestions. regards Bill

It's a Shame that you didn't even get to Post a Happy moment about it first>:surprised: Sorry to hear that YOUR Brand New machine isn't up to snuff..

You know when, Mine just recently came back from being serviced,, Minelab changed my Battery cable and Ikelite end with a new one .. and it was a super tight fit and a little difficult
to push completely in.. But after a few times it worked itself out..

I'm sure they'll e checking on that too.. Because they should have it back on there workbench either Mon or Tues.

I just bought a gt brand new and my rechargeable battery buzz's when it's being charged and the green light won't go off even after 20 hours of charging. It works but I am a little worried about leaving it charging and going out of the house. I wonder if it's the same kind of problem as you've got? Luckily the gt comes with an alternative "normal" battery mount. I suspect the charging plug is sitting proud of the connection and sparking into it across the gap, which is the noise I'm hearing. Not good. Took a little of the shine off getting the new toy to be honest.

If you bought it brand new then the dealer should swap it even trade and pay for shipping. It might be the law where you live. If you got it from Kelleyco I know they will do this as it happen to me. No question asked! I printed the return label and they sent a new detector. Any dealer should do this. I assume you used a credit card. That will help. This I saved but never tried may help? How to stop payment.

I believe that to be normal - mine is exactly the same. As far as I am aware the green light will never go off - it may dim when it is fully charged, but mine certainly doesn't seem to dim.

Ahh, I just read the manual, and it said it might go off or dim. I can't discern any difference in the light at all at any stage. The buzzing is quite worrying.

The connector on my first machine was tight too. Better tight than too loose. JMHO

Don't worry about the buzzing, that's commonplace on many chargers (including those from other manufacturers).

Hi William, Take a better look at the plug and think, It must be a gap there. Don't waste your time, get your a.... out there and find some gold

Have a nice day Jens .

If i had another one here I would swap it out with no problem, but I don't and it took 5 month to get this one. I am hoping that it is the battery pack as it seem like the adapter for charging don't fit in and neither does the connector from Excalibur does either, so I suspect it is the battery pack myself being bad. I wish I had a alkaline pack here or any Excalibur pack so I could send it to William to check out, but have nothing and hoping there is someone in his area that may have one to try and see it if fits.Normally I don't sell many of the Excalibur as most locals are not into water hunting, so they are ordered as needed. The last alkaline pack for the Excalibur II I ordered in took 5 months to get too as they have been back ordered like my E-Trac I needed that was ordered in March and still waiting for it. I am hoping Minelab get caught up and send out the detectors and accessories in order they have been received.

I am hoping when i call Minelab again they have a Excalibur II or a different battery pack I can get sent to William so he can get out and use his new Exclaibur as that is what he bought it for..

The gap between battery and plug is normal, it won't tighten down flush as the shape of the rubber washer being thicker around the pins than round the outside won't allow it, also the threaded outer ring of the ikelite touches the battery casing before the plug is too far in so as not to allow it.
You say the detector was silent with the supplied battery, you can check the detector as follows
To test the detector, use a good quality 9v alkaline or rechargable transistor battery, first turn it on with threshold up full and bridge it on the terminals, make sure you get it the right way round(looking at the plug with the alighning pin at the bottom the left is + and right is -) the detector will fire up i can asure you, for all its only rated 9v

To check the battery use a meter or a 12 car bulb, fully charged if i remember is about 13.8v(no load) if you use a bulb the light should be bright and hold its brightness

You could also check it out using ordinary 1.5v alkalines if you have an 8x holder(do the same as with the 9v) if you have other detectors that use 12v you could use thier battery too to do the test, ie explore/etrac
might save you sending the hole lot in if its just the battery pod at fault
