I just sent off the money today for my first metal detector , a EuroSaber with the 12"x10" coil, plus a 7" coil. I am planning on doing most coin hunting (because it is easier to find coin sites), but my main intrest is relic hunting (I live in Louisiana and would like to detect for Civil War relics and in some ghost towns. I am planning on buying a pair of headphones and I would like to know some of your suggestions. Come on...help out a newbie.
When suggesting a brand/model, let me know what would be your first choice, then which model you feel is the best value.
I probably only have about $50.00 to $60.00 to spend (the detector/coil purchase about broke the bank). So make your suggestion with this budget in mind...new or used...Thanks guys.
I also would like to thank you in advance for all of the answers I hope to get, on what I am sure will be many questions...Have a great day!!!

Killer B 'Wasp' (suggested $99.95), but the 'original' Killer B ($74.95) are almost as good, lacking only a couple of features.
Other headphones I like are the White's K/W Pro (discontinued but still available from some dealers). There are a few similar, competitive models to the Killer B's, but I like them the best.

Monte,
Thank you for the reply. Though I have had little to contribut up to this point, I have been following your posts on both this forum, as well as, the "offical" Tesoro forum. Having done so, I have come to value your opinion. I have found a pair of the "orginal" Killer B's on the Find Classified Forum, and have bought them. Thank you for the imput.
P.S. I also chost to buy the EuroSaber, in part, because of past posts you have made. As a person who's main intrest was going to primarily be relic hunting, my first choice was the Tejon (a little out of my price range at the moment), but I think I am going to enjoy the EuroSaber.
Because the opportunity to coin hunt will present itself more often, I also bought a new 7" coil for that purpose. Any other suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated. Have a Great Day!

When the toggle is set for Iron ID to be 'Off' the Euro Sabre is essentially operating like an Eldorado. I would suggest using it that way and setting the discriminate level for most every-day hunting, unless .....
#1.. You want to recover every type of metal target, both Iron & Non-Iron. If that is the case you can simply reduce the discriminate level to the minimum setting and the ED-180 discriminate circuitry will respond to ALL metal types.
#2.. You want to recover ONLY the targets that are non-ferrous, or ignore those which are most likely ferrous (iron) junk. In that case, I would set the discriminate level at the minimum setting and toggle into the AUDIO Iron ID setting. This will produce a low-tone response for most iron junk and a higher-pitched tone for most non-iron targets.
BONUS: By hunting with the unit set up as in #2, you will get to hear a response from ALL targets and this can alert you to the presence of metal in general, and if you're in an iron-infested site you can slow down and try to analyze any possible high-tone response that's mingling with the iron junk.
The 7" coil is my favorite Tesoro coil for most applications. If you have the larger 10x12 spoked concentric coil, I would use it only in more open, lower-trashed sites, leaving the 7" coil mounted most of the time for trashier locations and/or hunting in and around brush, etc.

Thanks Monte.
My machine should be here by Friday or Saturday (purchased from a dealer in Utah). The dealer ordered my 7" coil from Tesoro today 6/15, so I am not expecting to get it until early next week. I am sure I will be following your advise once I have possession of both coils. The problem is I will be too far away from good relic hunting ground this weekend, and will be forced to coin shoot with the 12"x10" this weekend. Though this may prove to be a little frustrating...BRING IT ON! I've been waiting too long to get started.
I am going to go out under the assumption that:
"A bad day metal detecting is better than a good day at work".
Any one else with Euro Saber suggestions...please feel free to post. I'll take all of the help that is offered.
Thanks,
Coach Guillot

dealer in Utah did you go throiugh, and where do you live?
If you have questions, E-mail me at: MonteVB@comcast.net

I purchased from a guy named Dave Lester from
Gold Nugget Detector Sales. Really good guy, great communication...I would highly recommend him.

Oh, I only answered part of your question. Gold Nugget Metal Detectors is a new dealer in Vernal Utah.
I live in Vacherie Louisiana.

You going to try it out over at Oak Alley?

Back...Pleasure Bend area, on the bayou, about a thousand yards from the lake.
I must say I am shocked that there is anyone on this forum who would even know there is such a place a Vacherie, much less that there is a "front" and a "back". What is your story?

Aaaahhhh, If that were only possible, I bet there is a bit more under those old oaks than the ever present

It sounds as if you have been "on the bayou before".

Sure have. I spent a lot of time in the N.O. area back in my more carefree days. I used to love driving the River Road. I even have a parchment on my wall of the plantations on the River Road.
There used to be a girl who led tours at Oak Alley who had the most amazing accent, and was truly beautiful as well. I could listen to her all day.

Do you happen to have any good detecting sites you would care to divuldge sine you ar no longer in the area. I have seen some of your posts on the relic forum, you seem to know what you are doing. I recently bought my first detector and have yet to use it.
Thanks!!!

I Work at a plant In Garyville with a guy from that area....last name is Kraemer
I lived in Reserve for a few years, but now reside in Baton Rouge

Actually Coach, I've only been detecting for about a year and a half. I wish that I had been detecting way back then. You sound as if you're on the right track, by doing research and learning from all the pros on the forums.
I have heard of folks having good luck searching the cane fields.
Good luck,
